Removing
- Slide retaining strip in direction of arrow -A- and remove it from side member.
Installing
Position of self-cutting screws for retaining strip
a - 980 mm ± 1 mm
b - 853.1 mm ± 1 mm
c - 639.9 mm ± 1 mm
d - 426.6 mm ± 1 mm
e - 213.3 mm ± 0.7 mm
f - 639.9 mm ± 1 mm
g - 426.6 mm ± 1 mm
h - 213.3 mm ± 0.7 mm

- Position retaining strip on screws and slide it opposite to direction of arrow -A-.

Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Removal wedge - 3409-
- Hot-air blower - V.A.G 1416-
- Cordless power driver - VAS 5036-
Removing
- Unscrew bolts -1-.
- Warm the retaining strip -2- using the hot air blower - V.A.G 1416-.
- Raise a corner of the retaining strip -2- using removal wedge
- 3409-.
- Put your hand under retaining strip -2- and carefully pull it off side member.
Installing
- Measure the holes according to the table below.
- Centre the holes for the securing screws.
- Drill out holes with a 1.5 mm drill bit.

Continued for all vehicles
- If all securing screw holes have been drilled -1-.
- Screw in self-tapping screws -1- with cordless drill/driver - VAS 5036-, using the highest speed 2500 ± 500 rpm, until the screw bites. Remove cordless drill/driver - VAS 5036- immediately!
- Tighten screws with least possible torque, i.e. 1.2 Nm - 0.1 Nm, so that screws are not excessively tightened.

- Fit retaining strip -2- onto screws -1- and push towards rear in -direction of arrow- until stop is reached.
- Remove protective film -3- on double-sided adhesive tape of retaining strip -2- and press on retaining strip in area of doublesided adhesive tape.
