Removing and installing rear lid
Special tools and workshop equipment required

- Torque wrench - V.A.G 1331-
Removing

- Remove rear lid trim ⇒ General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr. 70; Luggage compartment trims; Overview of fitting locations – luggage compartment trims.
- Disconnect connectors -arrows-.
- Remove high-level brake light ⇒ Electrical system; Rep. gr. 94; High-level brake light; Removing and installing high-level brake light
- Pull out lines -2- and hose -3- (if there is one) from rear lid.

- Loosen bolts -3- of left and right hinges (do not unscrew completely).
Further removal requires the help of a second mechanic.
- Remove gas struts -2- ⇒ 2.14 Removing and installing gas strut.
- Now, remove bolts -3- completely and then remove rear lid -1-.

Installing
Installation of rear lid -1- is carried out in reverse order of removal.
- Specified torque for bolts -3-: 10 Nm.
- Adjust rear lid -1- ⇒ 2.6 Adjusting rear lid.
- Before closing rear lid -1-, check function of lid release components.
