Removing and installing joint body

Only what differs from ⇒ 6.3 Removing and installing drive shaft; everything else is as there.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Wedge - T10161-
  • Closure cap - T10381-
  • Torque wrench - V.A.G 1331-
  • Used oil collection and extraction unit - VAS 6622-

Removing

  • Drain gearbox oil -arrow- ⇒ Rep. gr. 34; Gearbox oil; Draining and filling gearbox oil.
  • Pull drive shaft out of joint body, and lay it to one side.
  • Insert wedge - T10161- -2- between gearbox housing and triple roller joint -1-.
  • Press inner joint -1- out of gearbox by striking wedge - T10161- -1- with a rubber-headed hammer.
  • Insert closure cap - T10381/1- into gearbox.

Installing

  • Fit new retaining ring into groove of joint pin.
  • Push joint body as far as stop into gearbox. If necessary, use rubber-headed hammer to drive it all way in.

Use new nuts!

  • Fill gearbox oil ⇒ Rep. gr. 34; Gearbox oil; Draining and filling gearbox oil.
