Which drive shaft is in the car

The inner joint tells the construction, and the construction tells which procedure applies:

• Bolted to the gearbox flange shaft with six multi-point bolts per side: M8×48 (40 Nm) is the VL90 / VL100 joint (⇒ 6.2.2); M10×52 (70 Nm), with a cover, is the VL107 joint, threaded connection (⇒ 6.2.3). Both generations; removing and installing ⇒ 6.3.2.
• Plugged into the gearbox, no bolts, held by a retaining ring on the stub: the VL107 joint, plug-in connection (⇒ 6.2.4, removing ⇒ 6.3.3), or the TS1800 tripod joint whose joint body stays in the gearbox (⇒ 6.2.1, ⇒ 6.3.1, the joint body ⇒ 6.4). Polo 6C with the 1.0 engines only.
• 6-speed automatic gearbox 09G: a plug-in joint of its own (6QD 498 103), on the 1.6 MPI of both generations; neither manual describes it.
• Triple roller joint AAR 2000/108, bolted with M10×23: in the 6R manual only, and none of the model year 2014 cards below has it, so the parts catalogue by chassis number decides; ⇒ assembly overview, ⇒ removing and installing.
• On the car: the inner joint diameter is 90 / 100 / 107 / 108 mm; a cover between the inner joint and the flange only at VL107 and AAR 2000.
