Renewing reservoir for motor/pump unit

Only 6R 2009–2014

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Hot air blower, e.g. -V.A.G 1416-
  • Protective gloves (commercially available)
  • Rubber head hammer (commercially available)

Removing oil container

Residual amounts of fluid will remain in the hydraulic pump with electric motor after extracting the hydraulic fluid.

  • Seal threaded union for pressure line on hydraulic pump with electric motor.
  • Remove bracket from motor/pump unit.
  • Open clamp -1- and remove upwards.
  • Heat all around lower area of oil container -2- evenly using a hot air blower e.g. -V.A.G 1416-.
  • Pull reservoir -2- off motor/pump unit -3-.

Installing oil container

  • Place a new seal into the sealing surface of the motor/pump unit ⇒ Electronic parts catalogue “ETKA”.
  • Ensure oil seal is seated correctly.
  • Heat lower area of new reservoir evenly all around using a hot air blower, e.g. -V.A.G 1416-.
  • Fit reservoir -1- onto motor/pump unit -2-.
  • Position reservoir so that the union for the return line -arrow A- is vertically over the union for the pressure line -arrow B-.
  • Pull reservoir -1- onto motor/pump unit -2- to limit stop.
  • Use a rubber head hammer to tap evenly all around the reservoir -1- when doing this, never hit the unions with the hammer.
  • Ensure the reservoir is straight (not canted).
  • Secure reservoir to motor/pump unit with a new clamp ⇒ Electronic Parts Catalogue “ETKA”.
  • Tighten bolt of clamp to specified tightening torque.
  • Reconnect return line union to motor/pump unit.
  • Fill reservoir to approx. 1/4 full with hydraulic fluid and check for leaks at transition of reservoir to motor/pump unit.
  • Tighten clamp if leaks are found.
  • Drain reservoir.

The changing of the reservoir must be documented for reasons of guarantee.

  • Mark an area of approx. 15 x 30 mm with a permanent coloured mark -2-, e.g. anti-tamper paint, at the illustrated position.

The mark must cover the reservoir -1-, the clamp -3- and the motor/pump unit -4-.
