Checking and adjusting left track rod length

Special tools and workshop equipment required

• Hose clip pliers - V.A.G 1275-

• Check dimension “a” on left track rod and adjust as required.

Dimension -a- = 365 + 5 mm

Check dimension “a” of new track rods before installing and adjust as required.

Afterwards check overall toe-in on wheel alignment measuring rig and adjust as required; checking vehicle geometry ⇒ 5 Vehicle alignment check.

Installing boot

• Check boots for wear (splits, tears) and check sealing surfaces for soiling.

• Install boots. First turn track rod so that journal of track rod end is in installation position.
• Tighten hose clip using hose clip pliers - V.A.G 1275-.

Only use genuine clamps.

The boot must not be twisted after installation.
