Repairing rear brakes
After working on rear wheel brakes:
- Release handbrake.
- Firmly depress brake pedal once.
- 1 Spring plate
- To remove, push against compression spring and turn through 90°.
- 2 Compression spring
- 3 Brake shoe with lever for handbrake
- Removing and installing ⇒ 2.4 Removing and installing brake shoes.
- Adjusting handbrake ⇒ 4.2 Adjusting handbrake.
- 4 Upper return spring
- Unhook with special tool 3438
- 5 Lower return spring
- Grease points of contact with lubricating paste, part No. G 000 650
- 6 Spring
- 7 Brake shoe
- Removing and installing ⇒ 2.4 Removing and installing brake shoes.
Brake linings can also be supplied without brake shoes.
- 8 Cap
- Remove to check brake lining thickness.
- 9 Roll pin
- 10 Brake carrier
- 11 Hexagon socket head bolt, 8 Nm
- 12 Wheel brake cylinder
- Check for leaks ⇒ 2.3.1 Checking wheel brake cylinder for leaks.
- 13 Wedge
- To remove and install the brake drum, push upwards through a wheel bolt hole ⇒ 2.2 Resetting brake.
- 14 Plunger rod
- Grease points of contact with lubricating paste, part No. G 000 650
- 15 Locating spring
- Unhook with special tool 3438
2.3.1 Checking wheel brake cylinder for leaks
Special tools and workshop equipment required

- Removal wedge - 3409-

- Lift off dust boot with removal wedge 3409.
- If brake fluid is found in the dust boot, renew wheel brake cylinder.
Ensure the dust boot is not damaged when lifting off.
