5.1.1 Removing and installing front side airbag with igniter, vehicles without curtain airbag

Special tools and workshop equipment required

• Torque wrench - V.A.G 1783-

Removing

• Detach the cover and padding from the backrest of the front seat so that the side airbag can be removed and installed ⇒ 1.2 Removing and installing backrest cover and cushion.
• Remove bolt -1- (6.5 Nm).
• Remove side airbag from mountings in backrest frame.

Installing

• Install in reverse order of removal.
• Switch ignition on.

• Connect vehicle battery ⇒ Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27; Battery; Disconnecting and reconnecting battery.

5.1.2 Removing and installing front side airbag with igniter, vehicles with curtain airbag

Only what differs from the procedure above; everything else is as above.

Removing

• Remove bolts -1- and -2- (6.5 Nm).
