Removing and installing curtain airbag with igniter

Special tools and workshop equipment required

• Torque wrench - V.A.G 1783-

Removing

• Switch ignition on.
• Disconnect vehicle battery ⇒ Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27; Battery; Disconnecting and reconnecting battery.
• Remove moulded headliner:

• 4-door models ⇒ 7.2.2 Removing and installing moulded headliner, 4-door models
• 2-door models ⇒ 7.2.1 Removing and installing moulded headliner, 2-door models

• Release connector locking device and pull connector off curtain airbag.

• Position straight O-ring pliers into clip openings -1-.
• Compress pliers and carefully release clip from opening in body.
• Release clips -arrows- from body as described, starting from front.

• Release clips -1- from body above C-pillar.

• Remove bolt -1- (4.5 Nm).

• Remove gas generator -1- from mountings in body.

Installing

• Install in reverse order of removal.
• Switch ignition on.

• Connect vehicle battery ⇒ Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27; Battery; Disconnecting and reconnecting battery.
