Checking compression

Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Spark plug socket - 3122 B-
- Torque wrench - V.A.G 1331-
- Compression tester - V.A.G 1763-
- Puller - T10094 A-
Prerequisites for check
- The engine oil temperature must be at least 30 °C.
Procedure
- Remove engine cover panel.
- Remove ignition coils. Use puller - T10094 A- for this purpose.
- Unscrew spark plugs with spark plug socket and extension - 3122 B- ⇒ 1.2 Removing and installing ignition coils with output stage.
- Remove fuse for fuel pump control unit voltage supply from fuse holder beneath left dash panel ⇒ Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.

- Check compression using compression tester - V.A.G 1763-, adapter - V.A.G 1381/1- and adapter - V.A.G 1381/5A-.
- Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.
| New bar pressure | Wear limit bar pressure | Difference between cylinders bar pressure |
| 10.0 … 15.0 | 7.0 | max. 3.0 |
- Insert spark plugs using spark plug socket - 3122 B- and tighten to 25 Nm.
Further assembly is basically a reverse of the dismantling sequence.
- Read event memory, rectify any faults and then clear event memory: ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester “Guided Fault Finding”.
The readiness code must be generated if the event memory has been cleared.
