Cylinder head – assembly overview and fastening

• 1 20 Nm
• 2 High-pressure pump
  • For fuel supply.
  • With fuel pressure regulating valve - N276-.
  • Removing and installing ⇒ 5.2 Removing and installing high-pressure pump
• 3 Wiring guide
  • Bolt to camshaft housing with 8 Nm torque.
• 4 To air filter
• 5 10 Nm
• 6 Hall sender - G40-
  • With O-ring
  • Renew O-ring if damaged.
• 7 Stud, 6 Nm
• 8 10 Nm + ¹/4 turn (90°) further
  • Renew
  • Tighten from inside outwards.
• 9 Camshaft case

• 10 20 Nm
• 11 Lifting eye
• 12 Exhaust turbocharger
• 13 Oil pressure switch - F1-, 20 Nm
  • Checking ⇒ 2 Oil filter, oil pressure switch
  • If seal is leaking, nip open and renew.
• 14 Cylinder head gasket
  • Renew
  • Metal gasket.
  • After renewing, renew entire coolant.
• 15 Cylinder head

• Check for distortion ⇒ 1.1 Assembly overview - cylinder head.
• Sealing surfaces to camshaft housing must be oil and grease free.
• After renewing, renew entire coolant.

• 16 Guide pin
  • Specified torque: 20 Nm
• 17 Dowel pin
• 18 Oil strainer
  • Inserted into cylinder head
  • Renew
• 19 Support element
  • Do not interchange
  • With hydraulic valve clearance compensation.
  • Oil contact surface
• 20 Roller rocker fingers
  • Check roller bearing for ease of movement.
  • Oil contact surface
  • When installing, secure to supporting element using securing clip.
• 21 Seal

• 22 Cylinder head bolt
  • Renew
  • Follow installation instructions and sequence when loosening and tightening ⇒ 1.3 Removing and installing cylinder head.
• 23 Roller tappet
  • Lightly coat contact surface with engine oil.
• 24 O-ring
  • Renew
  • Moisten with oil before inserting.

Checking cylinder head for distortion

Check with straightedge 500 mm - VAS 6075- and feeler gauge.

Max. permissible distortion: 0.05 mm
