Checking changeover for exhaust gas recirculation cooler

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Hand operated vacuum pump - VAS 6213-

Procedure

  • Remove noise insulation ⇒ General body repairs, exterior ⇒ Rep. gr. 50.
  • Unscrew bolts -1- and remove cover for right drive shaft.
  • Remove heat shield sleeve.
  • Pull vacuum hose off vacuum unit and connect hand vacuum pump - VAS 6213- instead.
  • Use hand vacuum pump to generate vacuum.
  • The linkage of the exhaust gas recirculation cooler changeover must move -arrows-.

If linkage does not move or only moves in jerks:

  • Vacuum actuator is defective.
  • Changeover flap for exhaust gas recirculation is tight.
