Installing engine (Polo)

Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:

• Check whether dowel sleeves for aligning engine and gearbox are fitted in cylinder block and install if necessary.

• Hook intermediate plate onto sealing flange and slide onto dowel sleeves -arrows-.
• Bolt on gearbox.

Specified torques for gearbox: ⇒ Rep. gr. 34; Removing and installing gearbox

• Rock engine to align engine mountings stress-free.

• Install subframe ⇒ Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr. 40; Removing and installing subframe.
• Install pendulum support.
• Install drive shafts ⇒ Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr. 40; Repairing drive shafts; Removing and installing drive shafts.
• Install selector lever cable: ⇒ Rep. gr. 34; Removing and installing selector lever cable
• Install air conditioning system compressor ⇒ Heating, air conditioning system; Rep. gr. 87.
• Install poly V-belt ⇒ 1.3 Removing and installing poly V-belt (Golf Plus, Eos, Scirocco, Golf, Touran, Polo, Sharan, Passat, Passat CC, Golf Cabriolet).
• Electrical connections and routing: ⇒ Electrical system; Rep. gr. 97.
• Install noise insulation beneath engine.
• Fill with coolant (Polo). ⇒ 1.6 Draining and filling coolant (Polo)
• Install air filter ⇒ 1.4 Removing and installing air filter housing (Polo).
• Install battery and battery carrier ⇒ Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27; Removing and installing battery.
• Reconnect battery ⇒ Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27; Disconnecting and reconnecting battery.
• Connect ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.
• Erase learnt values and adapt engine control unit to throttle valve module “Guided functions”.
• Carry out vehicle system test.
• End the vehicle system test so that any entries stored in the event memory during assembly can be deleted automatically.

Observe applicable safety precautions during road test.

• Perform road test.
• Then carry out vehicle system test again and rectify any faults which may have occurred.
