2.3 Assembly overview - exhaust gas treatment (Polo)

  • 1 Heat shield
  • 2 10 Nm
  • 3 Exhaust turbocharger
  • 4 Seal
    • Renew
  • 5 25 Nm
    • Renew studs and fastening nuts.

Observe tightening sequence: items -A- to -I- ⇒ 1.1 Assembly overview - turbocharger.

Screw the studs into cylinder head until they project only 25 mm.

  • 6 Clamping sleeve
  • 7 Catalytic converter with front silencer
    • With flexible connection (de-coupling element).
    • Do not bend flexible connection more than 10° - otherwise it can be damaged.
  • 8 Mounting
  • 9 Lambda probe - G39-, 50 Nm
    • Grease only the threads with “G 052 112 A3”; “G 052 112 A3” cannot get into the slots on the probe body.
    • Remove and install using ring spanner for Lambda probe - 3337-
  • 10 25 Nm
  • 11 Bracket
  • 12 10 Nm
  • 13 Seal
    • Renew
  • 14 23 Nm
    • Renew
  • 15 Lambda probe after catalytic converter - G130-
    • Specified torque: 50 Nm
    • Grease only the threads with “G 052 112 A3”; “G 052 112 A3” cannot get into the slots on the probe body.
  • If seal is leaking, nip open and renew.
  • 16 10 Nm

2.6 Removing and installing catalytic converter (Polo)

Removing

  • Lift engine cover panel at points -1- and pull it forwards in direction of -arrow-.
  • Unbolt heat shield over turbocharger -arrows-.
  • Remove noise insulation securing bolts -arrows-.
  • Unscrew securing nuts on turbocharger -arrows-.
  • Disconnect connector -3- for Lambda probe after catalytic converter - G130-.
  • Also disconnect connector for Lambda probe - G39-.
  • Unscrew securing bolts -1- for charge air pipe.
  • Unscrew securing bolts -4- and remove bracket -5-.
  • Pull upper charge air hose off turbocharger.
  • Remove charge air pipe downwards.
  • Press front exhaust pipe mountings from pins.
  • Loosen securing nuts for clamping sleeve -arrows- and slide clamping sleeves backwards.
  • Remove catalytic converter with front silencer downwards.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

Specified torques:
