1.1 Removing and installing fuse box cover

Removing

  • Pull cover -1- out from fasteners in lower area -arrow A- and remove from dash panel.

Installing

  • Install in reverse order of removal.

1.2 Removing and installing upper steering column trim

Removing

6C 2014–2017

  • 6R 2009–2014 Remove driver airbag unit ⇒ 4.8 Removing and installing driver airbag unit.
  • Remove steering wheel ⇒ Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr. 48; Steering column and steering wheel; Removing and installing steering wheel.
  • Release locking lever of steering wheel adjustment.
  • Pull steering column out and press downwards.
  • Release gap cover -1- from mountings.
  • Release upper part of steering column trim -2- from mountings
  • Remove upper part of steering column trim -1-.
6R 2009–2014
  • Unscrew 2 bolts -1- (1.5 Nm).
  • Remove bolt -1- (3 Nm).

Installing

  • Install in reverse order of removal.

6C 2014–2017 1.3 Removing and installing lower steering column trim

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Torque wrench - V.A.G 1783-

6C 2014–2017 Removing

  • Unscrew 2 bolts -1- (2.5 Nm).

Drawing as above ⇑

  • Remove bolt -1- (2.5 Nm).
  • Release lower part of steering column trim -2- from mountings

Installing

  • Install in reverse order of removal.

1.4 Removing and installing glove compartment

Only what differs from the procedure above; everything else is as above.

Removing

  • Switch off ignition.
  • Remove dash panel end trim on front passenger side ⇒ 3.4 Removing and installing dash panel end cover.
  • Unscrew 3 bolts -arrows- (1.5 Nm).
  • Unscrew bolts -3- and -4- (1.5 Nm).
  • Release glove compartment from dash panel.
  • In vehicles with front passenger airbag deactivation, separate connector from key operated switch to deactivate front passenger side airbag - E224-.
  • In vehicles with tyre pressure monitor display, separate connector from tyre pressure monitor display button - E492-.
  • In vehicles equipped with glove compartment cooling, disconnect air conditioning duct from glove compartment.
